FEMA: Federal assistance now available for Arkansans affected by severe storms

BENTON COUNTY, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — FEMA announced on Friday that federal disaster assistance is available to Arkansans affected by severe storms that swept through northern Arkansas on Sunday, according to a news release.

With President Biden's approval of the Major Disaster Declaration, federal funding is available for those in Benton, Boone and Marion counties affected by the storms.

The release says assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help affected businesses and individuals recover.

"Federal funding is also available to state, eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for debris removal and emergency protective measures affected by the severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding in Benton, Boone and Marion counties," the release said.

The release says federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures.

Residents looking to apply for assistance can go to DisasterAssistance.gov, use the FEMA app or call 1-800-621-3362.

According to the Disaster Assistance website, those looking to apply for assistance have until July 30 to do so.
