Conway woman speaks out after little sister is shot in downtown Little Rock

CONWAY, Ark. – A big sister was terrified for her little sister as she lay limp on the ground after being shot while the family was out celebrating a birthday and riding scooters.

"Just having to sit there and hear my sister scream for help, you know," Camryn Bland said.

Camryn Bland's little sister is 17-year-old Amia Phillips. Phillips will be 18-years-old in 10 days.

"What could be just us going to have a good time turned into my sister being admitted into the hospital," Bland said.

The family was out celebrating Phillips birthday and one of her friends. As the celebrations came to an end, that is when the shots began to ring through the air.

"We were ready to leave, and before that could even happen in a split second, there were minors; they were shooting at each other, and then we were running," Bland said. "My sister was hit immediately, and she just fell limp on the ground."

Bland says having to witness the sight will leave a traumatic impact on her for the rest of her life, wishing she could take the bullet instead.

"Police said it was about 60 to 70 shell casings, I can't put an approximate number on it," Bland said.

Her vehicle was shot ten different times; she shares that had they been in the car, she believes the outcomes could have been much worse.

"I just thank God that he covered us and protected us and that my sister is okay," Bland said.

The 911 call occurred around 2 a.m. at the corner of E Markham and S Scott Streets.

Bland from Conway shared that she now feels it is unsafe to come to Little Rock anymore, scared something like this could happen again.

Amia Phillips has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home.

"She's just in a lot of pain, but she will be okay, we will be okay, we will get through this together," Bland said.

As of this time, the Little Rock Police Department has not arrested in connection to the shooting. If you have any information, please get in touch with the Little Rock Police.
