Working 4 You: Van Buren Co. Chief Deputy Derek Adams resigns for “personal reasons”

VAN BUREN COUNTY, Ark. – A Van Buren County man accused of being unfit for his position at the sheriff’s office has resigned.

The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday via social media the tendered resignation of Chief Deputy Derek Adams.

The department confirmed to KARK 4 News that Adams’ resignation was voluntary, and he was leaving for “personal reasons.”

Adams was the subject of several Working 4 You investigations after KARK 4 News received an anonymous tip concerning his role in the department where former employees claimed he was “unfit” for the job.

Working 4 You uncovered several incidences where Adams exhibited what some say is “violent” behavior.

In 2018, Adams was involved in a domestic dispute. He was initially charged with second and third-degree battery. The case was dropped months later.

Adams was also banned from Rose Bud Sports Complex after a confrontation with the mayor.

Despite some of the heat the chief deputy has come under the past few months, Working 4 You cannot confirm if those incidents have anything to do with Adams’ resignation.

Working 4 You has reached out to the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office for additional comment and has not heard back.
