Community says farewell to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hot Springs

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – A farewell ceremony was held Saturday for a historic building in Hot Springs.

The former St. Joseph’s Hospital is located on the campus of the Arkansas School for Math and Sciences.

At the end of this year, the building will be returned to the city of Hot Springs, and afterward, the old complex will likely be demolished to make way for new development.

“It is a chance to ultimately say goodbye to the structure,” ASMSA executive director Corey Alderdice said. “For our students and alumni who lived in those spaces over the years, it’s one last walk down memory lane before we do eventually hand the building back over.”

St. Joseph’s was built almost 100 years ago and was used by CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs until 1991.

The Arkansas School for Math and Sciences welcomed its first class in 1993 and used portions of the former hospital facility as part of a residential charter school.

ASMSA has invested nearly $35 million in new modern facilities in recent years.
