Broyles Award announces 2024 finalists

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – The Frank & Barbara Broyles Foundation announced Tuesday it had chosen the 15 semi-finalists for the annual Broyles Award.

Representatives said that former head coaches, broadcasters, and a committee representing the Football Writers Association of America made up the selection committee that chose 15 of the 65 nominees.

The semi-finalists are:

  • Arizona State – Marcus Arroyo, Offensive Coordinator
  • Army West Point – Nate Woody, Defensive Coordinator
  • Boise State – Dirk Koetter, Offensive Coordinator
  • Colorado – Robert Livingston, Defensive Coordinator/Safeties
  • Indiana – Bryant Haines, Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers
  • Miami (Florida) – Shannon Dawson, Offensive Coordinator / Quarterbacks
  • Notre Dame – Al Golden, Defensive Coordinator
  • Ohio State – Jim Knowles, Defensive Coordinator
  • Oregon – Tosh Lupoi, Defensive Coordinator
  • Penn State – Tom Allen, Defensive Coordinator
  • SMU – Scott Symons, Defensive Coordinator
  • South Carolina – Clayton White, Defensive Coordinator/Inside Linebackers
  • Tennessee – Tim Banks, Defensive Coordinator
  • Texas – Pete Kwiatkowski, Defensive Coordinator and Outside Linebackers
  • Vanderbilt – Tim Beck, Offensive Coordinator

Officials will choose five finalists from the list, with an overall winner named in a ceremony at Oaklawn on Feb. 13, 2025.

Officials said former head coaches, broadcasters, and a committee representing the Football Writers Association of America made up the selection committee.

The 2023 Broyles Award winner was Iowa defensive coordinator Phil Parker. Previous winners are not eligible to be nominated for the Broyles Award until the completion of three seasons.

The Broyles Award was established in 1996 to recognize Frank Broyles’ legacy of selecting and developing great assistants as Arkansas head coach. Proceeds from the award support the Broyles Foundation, supporting Alzheimer’s caregivers.
