Lyon College receives $100,000 from ARDOT for cross-country trail improvements

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Department of Transportation awarded $100,000 to Lyon College on Dec. 4 to improve its SCOTS Cross Country Trail.

Officials said the award will fund resurfacing and improvements on the college’s scenic bluff trails. They said the work would ultimately provide a safer and more functional environment for recreation.

“This grant underscores the importance of fostering connections between our campus and the natural beauty surrounding us,” Lyon College president Melissa Taverner said. “By improving the SCOTS Cross Country Trail, we’re not only enhancing the experience for our students and employees but also supporting community access to outdoor recreation.”

Officials said the funding came from ARDOT’s 2024 Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) and Recreational Trails Program (RTP). Lyon's SCOTS trail is one of 54 TAP projects funded this year for $16.7 million and 11 RTP projects for $2.5 million.
