North Little Rock Public Library System offering new volunteer opportunities for high school students
NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The North Little Rock Public Library System is offering new volunteer opportunities for high school students.
The library system is offering options for volunteering through its 2025 Student Volunteer Program and new opportunities at The Loft to help public high school students with completing 75 hours of community service to graduate, mandated by the Arkansas LEARNS Act.
"What better way to serve your community than by volunteering at the heart of it – the library!" Laman Loft Manager Bekah Smith said. "Students in grades 9-12 can apply now to join the NLRPLS Student Volunteer Program and work toward fulfilling their 75 required service hours here at their community library."
Applications for the 2025 Student Volunteer Program will open January 2, 2025, with only 20 spots available for the January-May semester. Applications can be picked up at the Children’s Department service desk at the William F. Laman Library and must be returned by January 6, 2025.
Students will have to attend one of the mandatory volunteer training sessions:
- Wednesday, January 8, 2025: 3 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
- Saturday, January 11, 2025: 10 p.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Students with busy schedules can volunteer through the library system’s passive volunteer opportunities at The Loft. Students can pick up a passive volunteer packet and return it for volunteer hours.
New packets will be available every month. This month, students can create four book recommendation cards for the student display to earn two hours of volunteer credit.
The Laman Library is located at 2801 Orange Street in North Little Rock.
