Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders proclaims Jan. 9 as President Jimmy Carter Day in Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders proclaimed Thursday, Jan. 9, as President Jimmy Carter Day in Arkansas to honor his life and service.

Carter died Sunday, Dec. 29, at the age of 100, making him the longest-living U.S. president.

Carter began his political career by winning a seat in the Georgia Senate and going on to serve as the 76th governor of Georgia.

He served as the 39th U.S. president. After his presidency, he focused on humanitarian work through the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project for Habitat for Humanity with his wife.

Pres. Joe Biden ordered flags at half-staff for 30 days following Carter’s death, and all federal facilities will be closed Thursday for National Day of Honor to remember the former president.

Carter was remembered at the Capitol in Washington D.C. Wednesday where he will remain until he is transported to Washington National Cathedral for a state funeral Thursday.
