Little Rock police say son injured mother & killed another woman in New Year's Day stabbings, leading to deadly officer-involved shooting

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Police in Little Rock have released additional information in connection to New Year stabbings that led to an officer-involved shooting, confirming that the suspect was the son of one of the victims.

According to the Little Rock Police Department, officers were called to an assault in the 2100 block of State Street around 8:25 p.m. Jan. 1. While responding to the call, officers said they found a car crashed into a nearby home.

Once on the scene, officers said they found 64-year-old Mary Ann Hansen dead inside the home due to a stabbing.

As officers began evacuating residents in the area due to a gas leak caused by the car crash, detectives said they found another woman suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was taken to a local hospital where she remains in serious but stable condition.

Investigators said they found a man covered in blood walking on South Broadway Street who matched the suspect’s description. He was later identified as 43-year-old Sidney Glasper. Glasper is the son of the victim who survived one of the stabbings, police said.

After locating Glasper, officers said they asked him to drop a weapon, but he refused to comply and continued to approach officers. Officers then began firing their weapons, killing Glasper. Detectives said life-saving measures were taken, but Glasper died at the scene.

Officials with the LRPD identified the officers involved in the scene as Officer Jesse Hurtado and Officer Zachary Nelson.

Hurtado and Nelson have been placed on administrative leave as an internal investigation is underway.
