Movies with Arkansas ties you can watch for National Popcorn Day

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Sunday is National Popcorn Day, a holiday many will celebrate in a cozy theater chair or their favorite spot at home watching movies.

For those celebrating at home looking for something to stream, there are several movies with ties to the Natural State that can be found on sites like Tubi.

Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me

This 2014 documentary tells the story of Arkansas native Glen Campbell as he completes his Goodbye Tour while also battling Alzheimer’s Disease. The film features the song “I’m Not Gonna Miss You”, his final studio recording that also received a Grammy Award for best country song.

Greater

The 2016 film tells the story of Arkansas Razorbacks offensive lineman Brandon Burlsworth who went from walk-on to All-American before dying in a car crash 11 days after being drafted to the NFL.

Come Early Morning

Directed by North Little Rock native Joey Lauren Adams, the film stars Ashley Judd, Jeffrey Donovan, Tim Blake Nelson and Laura Prepon and was shot in Little Rock and North Little Rock. It tells the story of a construction contractor who must choose between chaos or love.

The Bogman

This 2023 horror film takes place in the fictional town of Mountain Bend, Arkansas which is affectionately known as the “bigfoot town”. The film centers around a family which has just inherited a farm from a deceased uncle as well as the crew of a TV show being filmed in town called “Chasing Bogman”.  

Mud

The 2012 drama stars Matthew McConaughey as a fugitive who is reunited with the love of his life thanks to the help of two young boys. It also features Tye Sheridan, Jacob Lofland and Reese Witherspoon. It was directed by Little Rock native Jeff Nichols, takes place in Arkansas and was shot in parts of southeast Arkansas including Dumas, De Witt and Lake Village.  

Thelma & Louise

Released in 1991, this classic crime adventure film starring Susan Sarandon, Geena Davis, Harvey Keitel was directed by Ridley Scott and tells the tale of two Arkansas women who embark on a road trip through the American southwest that ends with unforeseen circumstances.
