ASP: Teen dead, 3 teens injured after high-speed pursuit involving Arkansas State Police ends in crash

MORGAN, Ark. – Officials with the Arkansas State Police said that one teen was killed and three more were injured in a crash following a high-speed pursuit Saturday night.

According to a release, officers with the North Little Rock Police Department requested the ASP’s involvement just before 11 p.m. due to being in pursuit of a vehicle traveling westbound on Interstate 40 with headlights off at speeds exceeding 120 mph.

Troopers said they joined in on the pursuit near Mile Marker 145 when the vehicle reached 130 mph before taking exit 142 onto Highway 365. Officials said the driver, later identified as 19-year-old John Bruce Martinez of Mabelvale, lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway and struck several trees.

Officials said that Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene and three 17-year-old passengers, also from Mabelvale, were transported to Children’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
