CAVE CITY, Ark. – On Saturday, Cave City Mayor Jonas Anderson gave an update on the city’s recovery after storms ripped through Friday night into Saturday morning leaving significant damage.

According to a post by the National Weather Service, their survey team found the tornado was an EF-3 with estimated peak winds of 165 mph.

In a post on social media, Anderson reported that electricity is being restored much sooner than expected in some sections of the city.

“I am thankful to report that some sections of the city are having electricity restored much sooner than expected, thanks to the incredible work and cooperation of our teams and those from Entergy Arkansas. A game changer,” Anderson said.

The mayor also said that there is a lot of food prepared and available at the middle school parking lot for those assisting with recovery and those directly affected by the storms.

“Our main focus right now is getting vegetation debris hauled out of the city and out of our way,” Anderson said. “Please pile up construction and other debris where it is. That is coming next.”

The mayor also asked residents to stay off the streets and said that he’s asked the Arkansas State Police and others to assist, saying that it hinders recovery efforts when officials are blocked by onlookers.

“This won’t be quick. It won’t be perfect,” the mayor said. “But it will be done, and we will climb out of this. I can already see it and feel it. We are going to recover and be okay, Cave City."
