LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – All season long, Arkansas Razorbacks men’s basketball coach John Calipari could be seen stalking the sidelines, yelling and gesturing wildly as the team marched their way towards a spot in the Sweet Sixteen.

At the time of Calipari’s hiring, the Razorbacks program was reeling from a 16-17 record and the departure of coach Eric Musselman to USC. After leaving Kentucky and signing a 5-year deal with the Hogs, Calipari got to work building his roster and coaching staff and debuted against Lipscomb on Nov. 6.

Throughout the first part of the season, the Hogs amassed an 11-2 record including an upset of #14 Michigan in Madison Square Garden. The team’s early success with budding stars like Boogie Fland, Johnell Davis and D.J. Wagner gave fans plenty of reason to believe in coach Cal.

Despite losing to Ole Miss in the 2nd round of the SEC tournament, the Hogs earned a 10-seed berth in the NCAA tournament and would eventually defeat 7-seed Kansas 79-72 in the first round. In the second round, Calipari squared off against his old foe Rick Pitino and the Hogs beat the 2-seed St. John’s Red Storm, punching their ticket to the Sweet Sixteen.
