LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Who’s a good boy? Why, the Arkansas state dog!
A bill signed into law on Friday designates the Labrador Retriever as the official canine of the state of Arkansas.
Labrador Retrievers, or Labs, are popular with duck hunters. The American Kennel Club states Labs are friendly, outgoing and high-spirited.
The AKC consistently ranks the breed as one of the most popular, often ranking it second behind the French Bulldog. No state has the French Bulldog as a mascot.
The Arkansas State Bird is the Northern Mockingbird, named as such in 1929. Arkansas does not have a state cat.
