Little Rock Zoo plans for World Penguin Day celebration on April 25
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Arkansans who need a reason to hang out with penguins have an excellent one on Friday.
Friday marks World Penguin Day events at the Little Rock Zoo.
Zoo officials said events are planned throughout the day to celebrate the zoo’s African penguins.
African penguins are a warm-weather species native to south Africa’s rocky coast. They are also critically endangered, officials said, due to habitat loss, overfishing, climate change and pollution.
Events begin at 9:30 a.m. with a penguin feeding and keeper chat, followed by a penguin awareness table at Penguin Pointe from 10 a.m. to noon. At 3:30 p.m., a second penguin feeding and keeper chat is planned.
All this is on top of regular zoo activities, such as feeding and keeper chats for various species, including bears, rhinos, tropical birds and anteaters.
