Trader joins fellow Terp Jordan Phillips in South Florida.
Maryland football defensive back Dante Trader Jr. was selected with the 19th pick in the fifth round — No. 155 overall — of the 2025 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins Saturday.
He was the fourth Terp taken — third on Saturday — in this year’s draft.
Trader was a consistent contributor since his freshman season and started in every game he appeared in over the last three seasons. Over his four years at Maryland, Trader totaled 190 tackles (123 solo), three tackles for loss, five interceptions and 15 passes defended.
As a senior, Trader missed two games due to injury, but still finished with a team-high four passes defended, 59 tackles (37 solo) and an interception.
He also played on the Maryland men’s lacrosse team as a sophomore.
NFL Next Gen Stats scored Trader a 56 based on his production and athleticism, which placed him 21st among safeties. He was the 11th safety selected in the draft.
He joins former Maryland teammate Jordan Phillips, who was selected 12 picks prior, on the Dolphins.
