Wheatland is Maryland’s second starting linebacker to enter the portal.
Maryland football starting linebacker Caleb Wheatland entered the transfer portal, Pete Nakos of On3 reported Wednesday.
Wheatland, a rising senior, recorded a team-high four sacks last season, along with 42 tackles (24 solo), seven tackles for loss and two pass breakups. He started in all 11 games he played as a junior.
Wheatland had been a reliable starter for the Terps over the past two seasons, posting 41 tackles (23 solo), 5.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks as a sophomore.
Listed at 6-foot-1 and 227 pounds, Wheatland was a three-star recruit and the No. 110-ranked linebacker in the country in the class of 2022. He was also the No. 29-ranked player from Virginia.
Wheatland is Maryland’s second starting linebacker to enter the transfer portal, joining Kellan Wyatt, who announced his decision Saturday.
