Pope County Sheriff Shane Jones resigns

POPE COUNTY, Ark. – The sheriff of Pope County announced he will be resigning to pursue an “incredible opportunity.”

Sheriff Shane Jones announced his resignation in an open letter posted to X on Thursday.

Jones stated that his resignation will be in effect on June 30.

In the letter, Jones said he was presented with an “incredible opportunity” that requires him to step down as sheriff before his third term ends.

“This was, without a doubt, the most difficult choice I have ever made in my life,” Jones wrote. “It is not one that was easily reached. My respect for this office, my fellow employees and the fine people we serve, was of paramount importance when reaching this conclusion.”

Jones also requested that the Pope County Quorum Court appoint Chief Deputy Blake Wilson as sheriff for the remainder of his term in office.

Jones was elected as sheriff in 2014.
