Little Rock Trojans beat Dallas Baptist, advance to finals of Baton Rouge Regional
BATON ROUGE, La. – On Saturday the Little Rock Trojans won their first NCAA Regional game in program history and on Sunday they beat the Dallas Baptist Patriots 8-6 to advance to their first-ever Regional Finals.
The Trojans jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first after Ty Rhoades hit a home run to right center, scoring Alex Seguine and Ryan Geck.
In the top of the second inning the Patriots got on the board after Luke Heefner hit a two RBI double. The Patriots took a 4-3 lead in the top of the 4th inning and Little Rock responded with two home runs in the bottom of the 4th from Angel Cano and Reed Willbanks to put the Trojans up 6-4.
Little Rock increased their lead to 7-4 with a Zach Henry home run in the bottom of the 5th and scored another run in the bottom of the 6th on a Reed Willbanks fielder’s choice that scored Sammy Harris, giving Little Rock an 8-4 lead.
The Patriots scored two runs in the top of the 8th inning on a Nathan Humphreys double, but Zach Busick and Blake Van Cleve shut the door in the top of the 9th to secure the win.
Little Rock will take on LSU in a rematch at 8 p.m. Sunday night, they will have to beat the Tigers twice to win the Regional.
