Watson Chapel School District receives grant worth up to $200,000 for food court improvements
PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The Watson Chapel School District received a grant worth up to $200,000 to improve the school cafeteria experience for students and staff.
The School Nutrition Foundation named Paula Bailey, the Watson Chapel School District food service director, the recipient of the AmTab K-12 Food Court Furniture Grant. The grant will go toward upgrading furniture in the cafeteria with AmTab furniture.
Bailey said the current cafeteria has a drab feel that does not reflect the energy of the school. She added that a new look in the cafeteria will increase meal program participation.
“Our surveys list the cafeteria’s atmosphere as one of the main reasons students prefer not to eat lunch there,” Bailey said. “The cafeteria is also used by our band and dance programs and other community groups. Upgrades are needed to provide them with a more functional area and a nicer, more inviting space for celebratory school events.”
The school district will work with AmTab representatives to determine the school’s needs.
