Texas woman wins $100,000 prize from $5 scratch-off ticket sold in Lonoke
LONOKE, Ark. – A Texas woman is taking home a huge payday after visiting Arkansas despite facing a run of bad luck recently.
Arkansas Scholarship Lottery officials said D. Hernandez from Missouri City, Texas, won $100,000 after buying a $5 scratch-off ticket from Jordan’s Kwik Stop in Lonoke.
Officials said she was working in Arkansas when she bought the ticket. She was, officials said, dealing with a recent bad luck streak after receiving difficult news and encountering a broken mirror.
While stopping at the gas station, she decided to try out some scratch-off tickets, and after winning $30, she purchased four more tickets, with one having the $100,000 prize.
"Something told me to try it," she told lottery officials.
She told lottery officials that she plans to use her winnings to support her daughter and buy a house.
"Taking care of my baby is my number one priority," Hernandez said.
The current Powerball jackpot sits at $605 million for Monday night’s drawing.
