UA Little Rock received $4.2 million to expand early childhood education across Arkansas
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Officials announced a $4.2 million donation from the Trinity Foundation to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
The investment will fund the Trinity Foundation Early Childhood Education Endowed Professorship, allowing UA Little Rock to increase its ability to train educators, conduct research, and support early learning efforts across Arkansas, officials said.
The university made the announcement on Thursday, July 25, at H. Tyndall Dickinson Hall, home of the UA Little Rock School of Education.
The donation includes $4 million to fund at least two new early childhood education faculty positions, along with $200,000 in immediate-use funds for research and grant development, according to a university spokesperson.
Officials said the investment will support teacher residencies, instructional quality research, professional development, and expanded access to high-quality early learning across the state.
“Early childhood education is widely recognized as a critical factor in student success, economic mobility, and community health,” Christina Drale, chancellor of UA Little Rock, said.
The Arkansas Department of Education is preparing to launch a Pre-K–2 teacher licensure exam, and UA Little Rock is currently developing a program to meet that need, university officials announced.
“Education is essential infrastructure, it strengthens communities, families, and futures,” Thomas Dickinson said, speaking on behalf of the Trinity Foundation.
The Trinity Foundation’s support follows a recent study, funded by the foundation and led by UA Little Rock and Education Partners, that identified key needs in Arkansas's early childhood education system, officials said.
