Arkansas Storm Team Blog: Earlier & earlier sunsets through October
It's that time of year when sunrise and sunset times noticeably change as we head deeper into fall. September began with a sunrise time in Little Rock of 6:42 a.m., and a sunset time in Little Rock of 7:35 p.m. September will end with a sunrise time around 7 a.m. in Little Rock, and a sunset time before 7 p.m. Through September, Arkansas loses around an hour to an hour and 10 minutes of time in daylight to time in darkness.

In October, even more change is expected. By Halloween, the sunset time in Little Rock will be just after 6 p.m. and the sunrise time will be around 7:30 a.m. Time will continue to be lost from daylight to darkness through November, too.

In fact, time will be slowly lost to darkness until the winter solstice. This year, the winter solstice falls on December 21. So until December 21, sunrise times will slowly grow to be later and sunset times will slowly grow to be earlier.

The biggest time change felt in the fall every year is the end of Daylight Saving Time. This year, clocks fall back on November 2 at 2 a.m. Clocks will spring forward in 2026 on March 8.
