Arkansas Storm Team Blog: Tropics are active in both the Atlantic & the Eastern Pacific
As of Tuesday afternoon, September 16, there are two areas to watch in the Atlantic for development, an area to watch in the Eastern Pacific, and a tropical storm in the Eastern Pacific. The tropics are active again in both the Atlantic and the Eastern Pacific. In the Atlantic, a broad area of low pressure has formed in the open tropical Atlantic, becoming better organized. It has a high chance of developing into a tropical depression or a tropical storm in the next day or so as it moves west/northwesterly, north of the Caribbean and into the western Atlantic.

A tropical wave is emerging off the western coast of Africa and will move through an unfavorable environment for the next few days. By the end of the week or into the weekend, it'll be in a more favorable environment, and gradual development is possible. The National Hurricane Center has given this area a 20% chance of slow development in the next 7 days.

In the Eastern Pacific, an area of low pressure associated with disorganized showers and thunderstorms has a high chance of forming into a tropical depression in the next few days as it moves northwesterly. Also in the Eastern Pacific, Tropical Storm Mario is tracking northwesterly, but approaching cooler waters. By Tuesday night, it's expected to weaken into an area of low pressure before dissipating by the end of the week.
