'So You Think You Can Dance' winner Joshua Allen dead at 36: reports
(NEXSTAR) – Dancer Joshua Allen, a winner of the "So You Think You Can Dance" competition show, died in Texas, TMZ and PEOPLE have reported. He was 36 years old.
The Fort Worth Police Department said a person was hit by a train on Tuesday, but was unable to confirm the person's identity. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office did not immediately reply to Nexstar's request for comment.
Allen took the top prize in the fourth season of the dance competition show "So You Think You Can Dance." In the finale, which aired in 2008, Allen beat out Stephen "tWitch" Boss, who came in second.
Boss, who went on to DJ and co-host Ellen DeGeneres' talk show, died in 2022 at age 40.
Choreographer and friend Emmanuel Hurd remembered Allen on Instagram, writing in part, "I know you're with Stephen now and that brings me comfort."
"There are no words. You were the life of the party," Hurd wrote. "You were Batman. Champion. One of the realest people I ever met. Kept it a stack every time and would make it right if you fell short. A real King. This one hurts deep."
After his win on "So You Think You Can Dance," Allen appeared as a dancer in several movies, including "Step Up 3D" and the 2011 remake of "Footloose." He also appeared in the shows "Community" and "American Horror Story."
In 2016, Allen was charged with felony domestic violence crimes, Deadline reported. He pleaded no contest and was sentenced to one year in county jail, according to People.
