Arkansas Division of Emergency Management revises death count of northwest Arkansas tornado outbreak from eight deaths to seven

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Officials with the Arkansas Division of Emergency Management said the death count from the weekend tornado outbreak has been changed based on updated info.

ADEM officials updated the count from eight deaths to seven after they said the Marion County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a death reported Sunday was not related to the tornado outbreak as was previously believed.

National Weather Service officials confirmed two tornadoes in Benton County Saturday, leading to the deaths of three people. Three deaths have been confirmed after an EF-3 touched down in Boone County and ended in Marion County and officials said an EF-3 tornado that touched down in Baxter County killed one person.

"We appreciate everyone’s patience as we adjust data as updated information becomes available,” said ADEM Director A.J. Gary. “We will continue to keep the public apprised of developments as we receive information.”

The National Weather Service confirmed that at least seven tornadoes touched down in Arkansas over the weekend, with the highest tornado rating being an EF-3.

The ADEM has also opened up donations for those impacted by the weekend's severe weather through the Arkansas Disaster Relief Program website.
