Bald Knob residents spend Memorial Day cleaning up after storm

BALD KNOB, Ark. – On this Memorial Day, instead of the smell of BBQ, the smell of trees filled the air on Clark Road in Bald Knob.

Sunday night, White County was under a tornado warning and parts the city of Bald Knob felt its power.

Storm cleanup is not how the people of Bald Knob imagined spending their Memorial Day, but that’s the reality.

On this holiday is we remember those who have lost their lives and while looking at the damage, David Jordan is glad he’s not being remembered after a tree smashed into his home.

"Sounded like a big bang of thunder or an explosion," Jordan said.

A massive tree cannon balled straight into David Jordan’s living room which is where he was minutes before getting up.

"I went to check the cake I was making so we could have Memorial Day dinner," Jordan said, explaining why this holiday means so much to him.

"I’ll never forget the meaning. My dad served in World War II," he said with tears in his eyes.

Two house down from Jordan, Kayley Treciak is thankful her home isn’t destroyed.

A tree was uprooted in her front yard but Instead of the tree falling on her home, it fell and rested on another tree.

"You could be living your day-to-day life and the next thing you know in five minutes it could be over," Treciak said.

This unpredictable storm puts this holiday into perspective for Jordan and Treciak, as they think about those who give their lives for us.

"I will always remember our fallen soldiers,” Jordan stated.
