Video shows driver reverse over tow driver head in repossession incident

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A tow driver is recovering after a driver ran over his head while he was trying to hook up a car that was being repossessed.

It happened just before 8 a.m. Wednesday at the University Gardens Manor Apartments off University Street in North Memphis.

Police said when they arrived at the apartment complex, the tow driver told them he was in the process of repossessing a red 2011 Ford Focus when a man jumped in the car and backed over his head and arm.

The victim posted a video of the incident on his Facebook page, which has been viewed over a million times. The victim also posted pictures of the injuries to his head and face.

In the video, you can see a man running toward the Focus and starting the vehicle. As the tow truck driver reaches under the car to hook up the Ford Focus, the car backs up over his head.

The driver does not get out of the car. The video shows him continuing to maneuver his way out of the parking spot and is seen driving away.

You can also see a woman standing near the vehicle in the video. The tow truck driver said while he was under the car, he heard the female yell, "Hurry up!" The woman was not there when police arrived.

Officers said the victim had abrasions on his head, a large black mark on the front of his sweatshirt, and complained of arm pain.

They said the victim was having trouble staying awake before he was transported to the Regional One Medical Center, but he is expected to be okay.

Another woman at the apartment complex told police that she sold the suspect the Ford Focus, but he was not making payments, so she contacted the victim to come repossess the car.

Police are still looking for the driver of the Ford Focus, who is facing a charge of aggravated assault.
