Registered sex offender, former school teacher facing child porn charges in Garland County

GARLAND COUNTY, Ark. – A former Garland County school teacher and registered sex offender is back in custody for parole violations.

Authorities have taken 52-year-old Zachary Thomas Nehus into custody on Wednesday after investigators found evidence of child pornography at his home. Officials said this is the same type of material found, leading to Nehus’s 2016 jury trial conviction, and he is facing charges of parole violation.

According to a release from Garland County Sheriff Mike McCormick, Nehus is a former school teacher, registered sex offender and active parolee. The material was discovered after the sheriff’s office and Department of Community Corrections investigators searched the man’s home.

Records show Nehus is currently held without bond in the Garland County Detention Center for parole hold.

Nehus was arrested in 2014 on 30 counts of felony child pornography charges, leading to his later conviction. At the time, he was a teacher at St. John’s Catholic School but was placed on administrative leave as soon as the school learned of his arrest, according to a statement from school officials at the time.
