Ways to celebrate National Grilled Cheese Day in central Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Every year National Grilled Cheese Day is recognized on April 12 in celebration of the American classic comfort food.

Though a grilled cheese sandwich is traditionally made featuring just bread and warm, melty cheese, several restaurants and a food truck in central Arkansas are serving up their own unique variations of the delicious dish.

Food blogger Kevin Shalin of The Mighty Rib described the grilled cheese sandwich as one of the ultimate comfort foods.

“I mean, who doesn’t love a good grilled cheese sandwich?  It’s such a nostalgic item and one of the ultimate comfort foods out there,” Shalin said.

According to Shalin, there are several restaurants in central Arkansas that serve stand out grilled cheese sandwiches including the Grilled Sandwich Company food truck at 801 S. Chester Street, which features sandwiches like the Jalapeno Popper, Buffalo Chicken and even a Lobster Grilled Cheese.

“Good news for those of us who are feeling a little lazy to make one at home as there are several great options around town. Brave New makes a good one on their lunch menu, and both BCW and Grilled Sandwich Company stand out for me,” Shalin said.

At Brave New Restaurant, their nontraditional grilled cheese can be found with slices of fontina and baby Swiss cheeses, shrimp and more on honey wheat bread. Bread Cheese Wine in Little Rock also serves up a variety of grilled cheese sandwiches like the BlackBerry Goat, Hot Honey Brie and French Onion Grilled Cheese.

According to Yelp, other restaurants and bars in central Arkansas with high-rated grilled cheese sandwiches include Four Quarter Bar, Whitewater Tavern, Dizzy’s Gypsy Bistro, Brood & Barley, Lost Forty Brewing and The Root Café.

If you prefer to make your own sandwiches at home, you can enter a contest through Borden to win a year’s supply of cheese at WinFreeBordenCheese.com.
