Van Buren County man pleads guilty to rape of a minor

VAN BUREN COUNTY, Ark. – A man in Van Buren County has pleaded guilty to raping a minor after being arrested last year, authorities said.
According to Arkansas State Police, 40-year-old Derek Horney pleaded guilty to rape in Van Buren County Court on Monday. He has been sentenced to serve 50 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections.
State police said investigators with the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office requested that ASP assist in a sexual assault investigation last year. ASP officials said the victim was abused between the ages of 10 and 14 in Arkansas and Oklahoma.
Authorities added that Horney was arrested on June 12, 2024.
