Arkansas State Police investigating after man killed in officer-involved shooting
WICKES, Ark. — A Grannis police officer shot and killed a 65-year-old man during an eviction-related confrontation Saturday night, prompting an investigation by the Arkansas State Police.
Darrin Laudermilk was pronounced dead at the scene on County Road 14 after reportedly firing a pistol at the officer, who was responding to an assistance request at the residence around 10:30 p.m. The officer returned fire, striking Laudermilk.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office requested the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division to investigate the shooting. Laudermilk's body will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an official determination of the manner and cause of death.
Special agents will prepare an investigative file for the Polk County Prosecutor, who will determine whether the lethal use of force was consistent with Arkansas law.
