Global talent hits the diamond at Babe Ruth World Series in Hot Springs

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. — From Nigeria, Puerto Rico, Mexico and New Zealand, baseball players from around the world are stepping up to the plate this weekend at Majestic Park.

Jenny Hans, who visited from the Philippines, said the Babe Ruth World Series for 14-year-olds is an experience the players and parents would call priceless.

"It's like sports become a melting pot for culture," Hans said. "I'm telling our players, just to be able to pitch for the World Series — just to be able to play catcher for the World Series — it's an honor."

Down the road, at the Hot Springs Convention Center, baseball fans are having an easier time putting a price tag on the weekend.

Mickey Felts, from Jonesboro, has been collecting baseball cards since he was a kid. He said he made more than $1,000 selling cards in Hot Springs on Saturday alone.

From the big leagues to the future stars of baseball, Hot Springs is no stranger to international players. And the people living there don't plan to be either.

"They see us wearing our uniforms and they're very gracious. And we are so happy to be here," Hans said.

The Babe Ruth World Series runs through August 16.
