Jefferson County Circuit Clerk Flora Cook-Bishop announces retirement
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ark. — After more than three decades of public service, Jefferson County Circuit Clerk Flora Cook-Bishop announced she will retire at the end of her current term on December 31, 2026.
In a public notice, Cook-Bishop reflected on her tenure, highlighting improvements to customer service, modernized records, and enhanced transparency.
"I am deeply proud of the progress we have made together," she said, citing the introduction of technology that streamlined juror selection and enhanced fairness in the courts.
Cook-Bishop also used the announcement to endorse Connie Compton, a lifelong resident of Jefferson County, as her successor. She described Compton as "well qualified and experienced" with a background in government and public service.
"I believe Connie's proven judgment, fiscal responsibility, and dedication to accessibility and customer care make her the right choice to lead this office forward," Cook-Bishop said.
The Circuit Clerk's office is responsible for a wide range of duties, including serving as the clerk for civil, domestic relations, criminal, and juvenile courts. The clerk also acts as the ex-officio county recorder, maintaining records for deeds, mortgages, and other property-related matters.
The notice assured residents that office operations would continue uninterrupted through the end of Cook-Bishop's term.
