Malvern assistant football coach dies in vehicle crash

MALVERN, Ark. – An assistant coach for the Malvern High School football team died in a vehicle crash Saturday night.

According to a preliminary crash report from Arkansas State Police, 54-year-old Mark Alan Freer was involved in a single vehicle accident south of Malvern on Country Club Road around 10:30 p.m. Saturday night.

“Our doors are open today if any players would like to come see us. Coaches will be up 1pm-6pm,” a post on social media by the school said.

The Bauxite High School football account also posted on social media in tribute to Freer.

“Bauxite Football team sends our deepest condolences to the Malvern football team and the family of Coach Mark Freer. We are so sorry for your loss,” the post said. “May God’s peace and presence rest on you all during this time. God bless you all.”

Malvern played their first game of the season Friday night in Jacksonville.
