LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Little Rock Zoo has some tiny new additions.
Zoo officials announced the arrival of three bush dog puppies Tuesday, noting that the pups are healthy and growing quickly under the care of their attentive parents and the zoo’s animal care team.
The puppies have the option to stay inside or venture outdoors, so spotting them will be a matter of luck for visitors, the zoo’s post read.
The Little Rock Zoo has installed temporary puppy fences in the exhibit to keep the pups safe as they begin to explore, especially near the habitat’s moat.
The zoo also shared that the puppies' genders will be determined during upcoming wellness exams and the results will be shared then.
Guests are encouraged to observe quietly when visiting the bush dog habitat. Zoo staff noted that the mother is still adjusting to the attention and is more likely to stay visible with her pups if the environment remains calm.
Bush dogs are small canines native to Central and South America. The species is classified as Near Threatened due to habitat loss and hunting.
For those hoping to catch a glimpse, Zoo officials said the best chances are during the cooler parts of the day when the pups are most active.
