School supply lists filled for many Arkansans after attending back to school bashes

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The school year has arrived for some, and for others, it's around the corner.

Some parents, like Clarice Bland, are finding financial relief at back-to-school bashes.

"I love the idea that everybody stepped up because they know the struggle of trying to get people through school," Bland said.

Bland is a mother of two and said after buying basic necessities for her children, it was a struggle to get school supplies, but now her kids have everything they need.

"It is such a big help to see people in our community or any community step up and help us out," Bland said.

She says this is what the South End community needed: every kid going home with a fulfilled school supply list after a day of fun.

Jason Pettus says he collaborated with the William E. Thrasher Boys and Girls Club to make the South End back-to-school bash happen.

He and his team served hot dogs and hamburgers to everyone in attendance.

"It's all about the kids, they're the next generation that's coming up and they need to know and see people out here giving," Pettus said.

The people of St. Mark Baptist Church stood true to those values. Allan Graves says their back-to-school bash provided extra resources that all children need.

"We have our vision screenings, dental screenings, immunizations, physicals," Graves said.

Graves said they were able to help more than 500 families by collaborating with Chase Bank.

Chandra Williams, a representative from Chase Bank, says it's an effort they like to make each year to help parents.

"We were able to provide 1,000 backpacks, and we all know that school supplies are a major part of a family's budget," Williams said.
