Travs alum Julio Rodriguez makes MLB history with 100th career homer

SEATTLE – When Seattle Mariners outfielder Julio Rodríguez hit the 100th home run of his career Sunday, he not only secured a 5-4 win over the Texas Rangers, but he also cemented several other historic milestones.

The two-run shot in the third inning made Rodríguez the first player in MLB history to begin his career with four consecutive seasons of 20-plus home runs and 20-plus stolen bases. The home run was his 20th of the season, completing the historic feat.

Rodriguez, who finished his 2021 season with the Arkansas Travelers alongside future Mariners teammates George Kirby and Matt Brash, also joined an exclusive group. He is just the third player in MLB history to reach 100 home runs and 100 stolen bases in his first four seasons, a list that includes legends Darryl Strawberry and Bobby Bonds.

At just 24 years old, Rodríguez is the youngest player in MLB history to achieve four career seasons with more than 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases.

His performance also rewrote the Mariners' franchise record books. With his fourth 20/20 season, he now holds the team record, passing Alex Rodriguez (3), Ken Griffey Jr. (2), and Mike Cameron (2). He also became the third-fastest Mariner to 100 career home runs, accomplishing the feat in 542 games, trailing only Alex Rodriguez (470) and Cal Raleigh (482).

The historic homer came in a starting lineup with former Travelers Raleigh, Cole Young and Logan Evans, showing the depth of homegrown talent leading the Mariners' future.
