Two detainees dead after stabbing at Jefferson County jail

PINE BLUFF, Ark. — Two detainees were killed Saturday in a stabbing at the W.C. “Dub” Brassell Adult Detention Center in Jefferson County, authorities said.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said the incident happened around 2:45 p.m. during a fight involving several detainees inside a housing unit. Staff removed the injured men and began lifesaving efforts, but both died at the scene.

The victims were identified as Darrion Williams, 24, and Jonathan Danard Harris, 22.

The jail was placed on lockdown while investigators processed the scene. At least two other detainees believed to be involved have been identified and will be interviewed, officials said.

Sheriff Lafayette Woods Jr. called the deaths “devastating” and said the sheriff’s office is conducting a criminal investigation. Families of both victims have been notified.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities said more information will be released when available.
