16 Maryland football players earn All-Big Ten honors
This year’s Maryland squad broke the program record for most All-Big Ten selections.
The Big Ten released all-conference football honors this week, and 16 Maryland players garnered accolades. It marks the most Terps to earn All-Big Ten honors since Maryland joined the conference, breaking last year’s record of 13 players.
Quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa and defensive back Tarheeb Still were Maryland’s sole second-team selections. Tagovailoa was named to the second team by both the league’s coaches and the media, while Still was named to the second team by the coaches but the third team by the media.
Five other Maryland players were named to the all-conference third team, with offensive lineman Delmar Glaze the lone unanimous selection. Linebacker Ruben Hyppolite II was selected by the coaches, while wide receivers Tai Felton and Jeshaun Jones and tight end Corey Dyches were selected by the media.
Nine other Terps were All-Big Ten honorable mentions, four of which were unanimously selected: safety Beau Brade, offensive linemen Corey Bullock and Gottlieb Ayedze and wide receiver Kaden Prather. Other honorable mentions include running back Roman Hemby (voted by the coaches), linebacker Jaishawn Barham (coaches), defensive lineman Quashon Fuller (coaches), cornerback Ja’Quan Sheppard (coaches) and kick returner Braeden Wisloski (media).
Nine players on offense earning all-conference accolades is the most for Maryland since joining the Big Ten, and six defensive players is a program-best since 2014.
Tagovailoa, the leader of the Terps’ prolific offense, is no stranger to all-league recognition. This is his second straight season earning a second-team selection, marking his fourth career All-Big Ten nod. Glaze, Dyches and Hemby have previously received honorable mentions, while Felton, Jones, Ayedze, Bullock and Prather earned their first career All-Big Ten honors.
On the defensive side of the ball, Barham, Brade and Still have previously earned All-Big Ten honors, with Barham and Brade doing so in back-to-back years. Sheppard was previously named to an all-conference team while at Cincinnati, being included on the All-AAC first team a season ago. Fuller and Wisloski are first-time recipients of all-league honors.
Glaze, Bullock and Ayedze were key cogs on Maryland’s offensive line this season. Glaze started every game at left tackle and has the second-highest pass blocking grade among Big Ten tackles, per Pro Football Focus. Ayedze and Bullock, both transfers who made the leap to the FBS level this season, started the majority of games at right tackle and left guard, respectively.
Hemby operated as Maryland’s top option out of the backfield for the second consecutive season, totaling 663 rushing yards on 135 carries with four rushing touchdowns. He also accounted for 288 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns.
The undisputed cornerstone of Maryland’s offense, Tagovailoa was dynamic in his final collegiate season, leading the Big Ten in passing yards (3,377), passing touchdowns (25) and completions (290). He made history in the Terps’ regular-season finale, becoming the Big Ten’s all-time passing yards leader.
At Tagovailoa’s disposal was a plethora of weapons, including the team’s leader in receptions and receiving yards, Jeshaun Jones. A sixth-year senior, Jones crossed the 2,000 career receiving yards threshold after posting 747 yards on 53 receptions in 2023.
Alongside Jones in the wide receiver room are Felton and Prather, who broke out for a combined 11 touchdown receptions and 1,332 receiving yards this season. Dyches also saw success, leading all Big Ten tight ends and sitting fourth among FBS tight ends with 49 receptions for a total of 491 yards.
Still made it difficult for opponents to find similar success through the air, leading the Terps with five interceptions; he’s one of only 15 players in the FBS to have at least five interceptions this season. His 45 tackles were the most among Maryland’s cornerbacks.
Brade and Sheppard also played pivotal roles in the Terps’ secondary. Brade led the team in tackles (72) and the defensive back duo combined for 13 pass breakups.
Meanwhile, Hyppolite, Barham and Fuller helped lead Maryland’s defensive front. Hyppolite’s 62 tackles ranked second on the team, and he added 2.5 tackles for loss. Barham and Fuller combined for six sacks this season.
Wisloski, a freshman, was named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week early in the season after returning a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown against Virginia on Sept. 15. He totaled 353 return yards this year.
