Possible storm moving up SoMardi Gras Parade Saturday
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Stormy forecasts are leading organizers of the 14th Annual SoMardi Gras Parade to move up the Saturday event to an earlier start.
The parade's start time has been moved from noon to 10 a.m. They said this also moves up the block party's start time to 9 a.m.
Parade floats and marchers will now need to line up at 8 a.m. and vendors can expect updated load-in instructions by email.
The parade will kick off from the corner of South Main and 24th Street and then proceed to 24th Street. The parade will transition into a block party that will run until 3 p.m. with live music, live mermaids, libations, bounce houses, face painting, and a Kid Zone.
Winning floats, performers and marching bands will receive cash prizes.
Immediately after the parade is the 11th Annual Little Rock Beard and Mustache Contest. Categories for the contest are best natural beard over 6 inches, best natural beard under 6 inches, best mustache, best-groomed beard, most original beard and best DIY crafted beard.
Ironically, the theme for this year’s rain-rescheduled event is “Under the Sea.”
Additional information on parade events and accommodations is available on the SoMardi Gras website.
