Arkansas Division of Emergency Management opens web portal for eclipse info
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – As Arkansas draws closer to its April 8 mid-day total solar eclipse, the Division of Emergency Management has put a web portal in place as a central information source.
The ADEM web portal for the 2024 Great American Eclipse will have details on special events planned across the state. According to ADEM officials, the state is anticipating 1.5 million visitors for the event.
The portal breaks down county-by-county events. ADEM officials said of the 75 Arkansas counties, 53 will experience a total eclipse, in some cases over four minutes as the eclipse moves southwest to northeast across the state. Over 100 activities are listed for the event, officials said.
"We are excited to share these special event locations with those traveling into Arkansas. We hope these community events allow those traveling to our state to experience all the great things Arkansas offers," ADEM Director A.J. Gary said.
Officials said the portal is built on the ADEM GIS and mapping hub, normally used for people to locate facilities during emergencies, including shelters, safe rooms and health facilities.
