John Daly's best finish at the Masters
AUGUSTA, Ga. (KNWA/KFTA) — When Arkansans think of golf, many immediately think of John Daly.
Daly jumped onto the professional golf scene in 1991 as a rookie when he won the PGA Championship as the ninth alternate.
He's won one other major since then, the Open Championship in 1995.
There was one tournament that Daly was close to winning but just fell short, the Masters.
Daly played in the Masters 12 times from 1992 to 2006. His top finish was when he tied for third place in the 1993 tournament with Steve Elkington, Don Lehman and Lanny Wadkins.
Going into the final round of the tournament, Daly was tied for 11th at two under par.
On Sunday, Daly quickly climbed up the standings eagling the second hole and birdieing holes 6 and 13 to go to six under par but dropped to five under after bogeying the 16th.
Daly had a chance to birdie on the 18th but missed the putt wide right and finished five under par for the tournament.
After putting, a commentator on the 18th hole of CBS's broadcast said after Daly finished his round, "[Daly] is gonna be one of many sitting at home tonight thinking 'I could've won that tournament, if only'."
Since that tournament, Daly never again finished the Masters inside the top 20.
