Old State House Museum to host event commemorating historic Brooks-Baxter War in Little Rock
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Division of Arkansas Heritage is set to host a public event to commemorate the gubernatorial battle in Arkansas between Joseph Brooks and Elisha Baxter.
Marty Ryall, the Director of Division Heritage, the stopped by Arkansas Today to talk more about what attendees can expect at the Brooks-Baxter War commemoration on Saturday, April 20.
The event named “Anarchy of Arkansas” is hosted by the Old State House Museum, the Arkansas State Archives and Historic Arkansas Museum at 300 W. Markham St.
The groups represented will present an interpretation and commemoration of the war from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Old State House Museum.
According to museum representatives, The Brooks-Baxter War was an armed conflict between the respective supporters of Joseph Brooks and Elisha Baxter for Arkansas governorship where 200 people died.
