Shorter College president Jerome Green dies suddenly

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Monday marked the passing of an important figure in faith and scholarship for the central Arkansas community.

Shorter College announced that O. Jerome Green, the institution’s 45th president, has died.

Green earned a Juris Doctor at the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, with a Master of Arts in journalism at The Ohio State University and a Bachelor of Arts in english language and literature at Miles College.

Green practiced law in Little Rock before joining Miles College as an associate professor of communications and director of government relations in 2005. He became Shorter College president in 2012. He was also a pastor of Connor Chapel AME Churches in Little Rock.

School officials noted that under Green’s leadership Shorter College’s enrollment and graduation numbers broke records. Several new academic programs were established, and the college established its STEM Center for Academic Excellence.

In February, the HBCU Campaign Fund named Green one of the Ten Most Dominant HBCU Leaders Award and Class of 2024.

Funeral and visitation arrangements have not been announced.
