AAA says gas prices dropping as Arkansas heads into summer, now 2nd lowest in US

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Temperature numbers are climbing while numbers at the pump are dropping, according to one source.

AAA officials stated Thursday that pump prices are now averaging $3 per gallon in Arkansas. That price marks a 6-cent drop from last week’s and 11 cents below this time last year.

The lowest price average in central Arkansas is in the Little Rock – North Little Rock metro at $2.97. Hot Springs is 1 cent higher at $2.98 on average. Pine Bluff is the highest in the state’s center at $3.07.

Greene County, in the state’s northeast, has the lowest overall price, $2.84 per gallon, followed closely by Van Buren County in north-central Arkansas, which has an average of $2.85. The highest average in the state goes to Lafayette County on the southern border, at $3.30 per gallon.

Experts said dropping crude oil prices are behind the price drop. West Texas Intermediate is currently trading at $73 per barrel, down from $79 at the end of May.

“Arkansas drivers are seeing year-over-year savings at the pump, good news for those planning summer road trips,” AAA spokesperson Nick Chabarria said. “If crude continues to fall, motorists could see pump prices drop lower just as we enter the peak summer driving season.”

According to the AAA price survey, Arkansas is currently averaging the second-lowest gas prices in the country.
