Arkansas State Police arrest driver accused of road rage on I-40 in Mayflower

MAUMELLE, Ark. – Arkansas State Police troopers responding to 911 calls from motorists led to a Mayflower man's arrest in Maumelle on Wednesday.

Arkansas State Police said callers to 911 at 5:45 p.m. informed troopers that two cars on westbound Interstate 40 near Mile Maker 147 were driving erratically and at high speed. Troopers said they spotted the pair and pulled them over near Maumelle.

Investigators said they determined that 47-year-old Charles Pope had deliberately struck the other car, driven by a 36-year-old Little Rock woman.

Officials said Pope was taken into custody and transferred to the Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility.

Authorities noted Pope is facing charges of felony aggravated assault. The maximum possible penalty for felony assault is six years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
