Phase 1 of openings on I-30 westbound Arkansas River Bridge begins Oct. 4, causes detours in Little Rock & North Little Rock
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – As a new portion of the new Interstate 30 westbound prepares to open, traffic in Little Rock and North Little Rock will be impacted with detours next weekend.
Construction on I-30 will close all westbound lanes with detours from 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4 through 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7. Eastbound traffic will not be affected by construction.
Officials with the Arkansas Department of Transportation said this will be the first of three phases of traffic shifts to transition onto the river bridge.
Below are the detours for the weekend of Oct. 4-7:
I-30 westbound traffic will be one lane and will detour onto the Broadway Street exit (Exit 141B) in North Little Rock to Cypress Street. The traffic signal at Broadway Street will allow traffic off and on I-30 westbound and Broadway Street traffic will be detoured to Riverfront Drive and North Locust Street in North Little Rock.
Traffic will take the Broadway Street on-ramp to return to I-30 westbound. After crossing the river bridge, I-30 westbound traffic will take the downtown Little Rock exit to 4th Street (Exit 140).
I-30 westbound traffic will continue onto the southbound frontage road and use the 9th Street on-ramp to access I-30 westbound. Interstate 630 westbound traffic will continue onto the southbound frontage road and use the ramp to I-630 westbound.
Below are traffic patterns after the weekend of Phase 1:
Opening westbound ramps
- Broadway Street on-ramp in North Little Rock
- 4th Street in downtown Little Rock off-ramp (Exit 140)
- I-630 westbound on-ramp from the southbound frontage road in Little Rock
Closing temporary westbound ramps used during construction
- Bishop Lindsey Avenue on-ramp in North Little Rock
- 6th Street off-ramp in Little Rock
Traffic officials said that drivers should decide to exit to downtown Little Rock or I-630 before crossing the river bridge. Drivers will need to use the right or center lane to exit to downtown Little Rock or I-630 and the left or center lane to remain on I-30 westbound.
