Friends find dead animals on side the road in Vilonia

VILONIA, Ark. – A typical drive to the store last week turned into an odd discovery for Karalena McCurry, when she found four black trash bags on side the road.
“I saw them I didn’t want to stop because I had the intuition, I just didn’t have the heart to do it” McCurry said.
Her gut feeling alerted her that something was off, leading her to pull over.
“I got out of the car and put my foot on the bag checking to see if it was trash it was hard so that when I reached down opened the bag, it was a mama dog” McCurry said.
She was hoping that would be the last dog she found dead, but it wasn’t, it was another dog.
“I also noticed two more. I stopped checked those, those two were actually puppies,” McCurry said. “When my fiancé got home from work that’s when I noticed the 5th dog.”
Five dogs all lifeless on side the road, and just when McCurry thought things couldn’t get any worse, she got a call from a friend.
"The next morning Maria contacted me saying that they found a goat” McCurry said.
This all happened on Beryl Road in Vilonia. Rebecca Laflamme says the situation made her sick to her stomach.
"It’s not something we want to see” Laflamme said.
Laflamme is a dog rescuer and believes that this might not have happened if there was an animal shelter in Faulkner County.
"We’ve kind of just been left to deal with the situation on our own and privately, I've picked up dump dogs on side of the road” Laflamme said.
Faulkner County responded to this saying that the animal shelter is near completion and that they’ve been making progress with setting up the inside of the facility.
The county also responded to the calls about the animals saying that when officers arrived nothing was found, but they are still investigating the situation.
