Jefferson County jail supervisor finds contraband on person visiting jail

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ark. – A Jefferson County jail supervisor says they were able to confiscate a significant amount of contraband Sunday morning.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the items were found on 20-year-old Tamara Haltiwanger at the Dub Brassell Adult Detention Center around 7:30 a.m.

Investigators said Haltiwanger was part of the detention center’s “Clean Team” program. The program allows for people to work at the facility as part of their sentence, rather than being detained within the facility.

Investigators said the jail supervisor noticed the smell of marijuana on Haltiwanger. During a further investigation, it was found that she allegedly had 3.2 ounces of marijuana and 7 ounces of tobacco in her possession.

Haltiwanger was booked into the detention center and is now facing charges of furnishing prohibited articles and possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance with the purpose of delivering.

Haltiwanger is expected to appear in court for a probable cause hearing at a later date.
